Delays in treating traumatic brain injury cases alarming: Experts Delays in treating traumatic brain injuries (TBI) are becoming a major concern in India, with experts warning that slow medical response is contributing to high disability and death rates. According to the Union health ministry, TBI accounts for about 10% of all injury-related deaths, with over one million cases and nearly 100,000 fatalities each year. Dr Manish Vaish, Director and HOD – Neurosciences at Medanta Super Speciality Hospital, Gurugram, said TBI is a national crisis that demands collective action and the prevalence of delayed treatment in such cases is alarming. Dr Yashpal Singh Bundela, senior consultant at Brain and Spine Ppl, New Delhi, highlighted the impact of timely access to healthcare services on TBI outcomes.
